There are many different approaches to the mic eq settings of Yaesu Ft-710 because of the dissappointing factory microphone. “ham radio hack“s video didn’t give me satisfying suggestions about settings but one of the comments got my attention:
@truthfilterforyoutube82185 ay önce (düzenlendi)When you turned the processor on it was way to hot because of the Mic gain of 65… back it down to 50. If you want to get rid of ” Mud”…you don’t add ” Mud frequencies” ,200-700 hz ….you cut them. Try -6 to -7 on 500 hz with a bandwidth of about 7-8 to really focus close to those freq’s. add about 5 with a bandwidth about 8 near 1.5 to raise the mids from non existent….and do the same around 2600 mhz. Change high cut to 12db curve at about 2900 in ” Radio settings menu”.
I’ll add all other youtuber hams’ Eq setting advices in this blog in a series of posts.
Learning process starts with 5 letter random words generated by machine with 2 letters and it sends them to you in morse code via speakers .
It gives a couple of different letter groups and waits you to copy them while they flow. When you successfully copy them with less than a certain number of errors then number of letters goes up to 3 and goes on…
How many hours should I practice per day?
Hours? No, no, no. You should spend 15 minutes to 30 minutes per session. So how many sessions per day? Uh, it really depends on you. But please don’t burn your brain.
What am I going to learn?
There are total 40 characters including letters, numbers and basic punctuations which are totally enough for morse conversations on air. (ie. dah di di dah dit is slash :P).
Advices
Don’t start with slow word per minute speeds. Just start with 20 words. It would be challenging at first but in long term you won’t need to work again on speeding up.
Don’t forget that morse is not dots and dashes but dits and daahs. So never think about shapes. Just concentrate on sound.
In settings section keep things as they are. 5 letter random words are fine etc.
Just use keyboard. Don’t listen guru’s who say “oh, if you start with a keyboard your brain blah blah blah and you would not copy with pen and paper”. Yea yea ok Yoda. (You’re going to write with pen aswell. There will be no problem. You just need time).
Nearly at 15th character there will be a threshold to be crossed. Don’t fight with it. Just leave everything for a week. Then come back. Then you’ll see it’s not a big deal. Everything’s gonna be all right 🙂
Another challenge will be waiting for you at about 30th-35th chars and that will be more annoying. First do that 1 week off thing again. If it’s still challenging, keep calm and just start from the beginning. You’ll regain your self confidence and your brain put things in an order with that way.
So how much time will it take to understand morse conversations on hf bands?
To be honest; if you spend 30 minutes per day and you insist on 20 words per minute, after 6 months you’ll have fun. But don’t forget thet learning process is also fun.
So why we’re learning morse?
I don’t know. :))
Wait! What about sending morse?
The most difficult part of learning morse is copying the code accurately and properly. When you reach that goal, you will see that sending Morse is a gift that comes with copying.
Last words
If that helps, come back 6 months later and leave a comment 🙂 If you have any other ideas share them with me. Yeah yeah cause that “blog thing” needs interaction.
